The Father washes wicked hearts with water from above,
To cleanse and bless our guilty flesh, submerging us in love.
He seals with sacred promise, fast, from which none can remove,
For we are bound forever, sure, with tripart chords of love.
We eat the bread of death made life by Heaven’s gracious will.
We drink the cup the Son of Man emptied himself to fill.
His voice still speaks his mercy great by Spirit, Word, and Church--
The selfsame voice that whispered life when hovering o’er the earth.
We breathe the Spirit in each breath, his groanings more than words.
Our prayers—like incense—with him rise; their answers stand assured.
And now descend to us, we pray, to bless this bread and cup,
That on true body and true blood your children stay and sup.
And as we feast we're drawn into a sacred unity,
And join to share the ancient life of thou, the trinity.
O Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, all praise and love to thee,
Whose everlasting faithfulness is our best surety!
To cleanse and bless our guilty flesh, submerging us in love.
He seals with sacred promise, fast, from which none can remove,
For we are bound forever, sure, with tripart chords of love.
